Family Adventures - Protea Black Mountain Hotel - Thaba Nchu

We are on our way for our first major quad bike ride with "Family Adventures". They are well know for very organized rides and this is our first oppertunity to join them.

All Loaded and Ready

We will be staying at the Protea Black Mountain Hotel which I believe is fabulous and we will be ridding in the mountains near Thaba Nchu.
Really looking forward to this.

We were not it too much of a hurry to get on the road today as we had done all our packing and prep yesterday but as always it's hair and make-up and munchies for the road. 

Road Block

Quad bikes were loaded and bakkie packed by 9:30 and we were off. This is a good time to start as the traffic has thinned out and we have the whole day to able and enjoy the countryside. 

We have not had a weekend break for almost a year now so we are really looking forward to this.

Just on the outskirts of Johannesburg we approached a road block but were just waved on. 

520 km and five hours thirty minutes later and we arrived at Protea Black Mountain Leisure Resort. 

This used to be the old Thaba Nchu Sun and Casino. It is way off the beaten track and I think now a  days it is only bused for conference and events such as the "Family Adventure Rides"

The hotel has lovely views over the lake but you can feel the chill creeping in. The temp tonight is an estimated -6 deg. Typical Free State winter night in the mountains.

We have checked in and off loaded our quad bikes. There are rows and rows of quads and off road bikes lining up for tomorrow morning. 

Tonight is the briefing and I am sure it will be an early night for everyone.
